May Construction Inc. Company Profile
"They were so easy to work with. We were comfortable with them from the minute we signed. You know you've made the right choice when you see how efficient they are."
When customers responding to research phone calls gave reviews like that one from a customer named Pam, it was obvious they had found an exceptional remodeling contractor.
Homeowners throughout Santa Clara County praise the dedication and talent of the skilled workers at May Construction, Inc., based in San Jose CA.
May Construction, Inc. is owned by husband and wife team Greg May and Debbie May. Drawing on Greg's 31 years in the industry and Debbie's experience as business manager, the Mays know how to run a company that treats customers right. With a large staff and broad base of customer support, they give the attention and service that ensures even the biggest projects run smoothly.
Come Prepared
Quality is the most important factor in choosing their workforce, according to Greg May. "We use the same, proven sub-contractors on every job because we know they will treat the customers' home right and do the job correctly."
Greg May knows construction. He started working for his father at age 13 and became a partner in his dad's company at age 24. In 1995, Greg's father and his employees followed when Greg started his own company.
Many of the builders and sub-contractors May Construction, Inc. works with today have been part of the team since the beginning. "We have a great pool of sub-contractors and vendors," says Greg. "Everyone we work with has the same high moral standards as our company."
Their high standards also extend to the building materials they use. "We go to the best quality lumber suppliers. It might cost our company more, but if we spend the money on good lumber everything we put on top will last longer and be more stable," says Greg May. "Anyone can do a job cheap—you just can't do it cheap and right."
But some contractors promise both low cost and high quality. How can customers make sure they get accurate quotes? Greg May says homeowners should be prepared before having contractors bid on their projects.
"Put it all in writing. List any expectations or issues the contractor needs to know about and make sure the contractor has it during the bidding process," he says. "If you don't come prepared, a lot of contractors will fudge their numbers. They'll leave out items to make their bottom price look attractive. Once the contract is signed, the price goes up because they'll charge more for the brands you want. Putting expectations in writing up front protects you."
A Comfortable Fit
Customer satisfaction is important to Greg May and Debbie May. They have a full-time office staff ready to answer questions, set appointments and take care of special requests.
Debbie May says their business is built around one philosophy. "Remodeling is our business, building confidence is our success," she says. "Ultimately we look out for our clients' best interest."
"It's important to maintain customer confidence," says Greg. "That doesn't just mean doing quality work and showing up on time. The client needs to be comfortable. If we take the time to really get to know what is important to them, we can make their remodeling experience the best it can be."
May Construction, Inc. resources include local experts in architecture, design and home accessories. They recommend professionals to help customers pick the right design and finishing touches for their home. Because the professionals at May Construction, Inc. have working relationships with the contractors they recommend, you get the benefit of a close-knit building and design team working on your project.
Emphasis on communication helps maintain project timelines and schedules. Through email and regular meetings, homeowners and every member of the building and design team make sure your project is moving in the right direction.
The easy communication and reliable scheduling at May Construction, Inc. resulted in a quality remodel for Ann, a customer who responded to a research call. She said, "Everybody on the job was wonderful. They were very helpful and kind. They did everything they promised. In the end, I loved everything that happened."
Debbie May says the key to their great service is the size of their team. "We don't just sell project, we sell a team," she says. "There is always someone available. You're not hiring a construction company where the owner isn't available because he's out in field working. Greg has people in field to take care of those needs, and that allows us to give each customer quality service."
According to Greg May, efficiency is natural for employees who are dedicated to their jobs. "We all love what we do. We have great office staff and great field employees," he says. "Our team is passionate about what they do each day."
Relationships Matter
May Construction, Inc. employees take pride in caring for their customers. During a research phone call, recent client Kristine said, "They are caring and they went out of their way to create a safe environment for my handicapped and elderly relatives. The house was very livable while under construction."
You can count on May Construction, Inc. long after they've completed the finishing touches. Greg May explained, "We want to make sure our clients are happy, even years later. We keep in contact and build relationships with them. We golf with them, we have dinner with them. Our relationships with clients are more than just building projects."
Greg May was born to build. "I've always loved building things," he says. "As a kid, I built forts with scrap lumber. Now, I love standing back when the project is finished and having a sense of pride in what we've done. I love to drive down the street and say, ‘We built that.'"
The Mays have also built a rewarding life. They have five children, four boys and one girl, ages 15 through 20. Family vacations, three-day getaways and holiday celebrations are traditions they all enjoy.
Alongside their busy work schedules, Greg May and Debbie May enjoy golfing, cooking together and spending time with their family. Several of their boys play football, and there are always sporting events on the calendar. They are also active in their church.
The Mays credit their strong relationship for their success. "We make a great team," says Debbie May. "You need to be successful in your personal relationships before you can be successful in your business relationships."
Greg agrees their happy home has helped build their business. "I think we ground each other," he says. "She looks at things from one angle and I look at them from another. We are able to bounce ideas off of each other and see the other side of the equation."
From any angle, it's obvious that May Construction, Inc. and owners Greg May and Debbie May have created a remodeling company that exceeds customer expectations.
When you are planning a remodel, choose May Construction, Inc., the Santa Clara County contracting company that is big enough to serve your needs and personal enough to care about every detail.
