Talking with Travis, you get the sense that he is a decent, hardworking guy that loves plants and knows how to bring this appreciation for outdoor environments to his clients. You might also get the sense that he is a bright and dedicated student of many subjects; to wit, his recent graduation from San Jose State as a Dean's List scholar with a BS in Finance.

Although these interests may seem disparate, Travis is quick to point out that he has been gardening since he was a little kid. His love of being outside and having his hands in the dirt led naturally to a job with a nursery in Cupertino, California, right out of high school. Travis Foster worked at Yamagami's Nursery for several years while attending a local junior college. He learned a great deal about plants and planting and outdoor landscapes there. Eventually, a contractor who also happened to be a close family friend, asked Travis to help finish a home-building project. Working closely with Travis, that friend picked up on a natural inclination toward customer communication and impressive knowledge of design and implementation of gardens, and nudged Travis Foster toward a career in design and construction. Travis was ready to give it a try and acquired his contractor's license on the first try (there's that bright and dedicated student again); soon he was busy running a business and finding less and less time to be outside. A series of frustrating events led Travis to reevaluate the path that his work was taking. He decided to take some time off and travel. It was a fortuitous break in many ways. Travis gained a new perspective on his business, and a wife!

Upon his return to the states, Travis Foster put a name on his new venture: Dragonfly Gardens, Inc. That name Dragonfly Gardens is the result of a brainstorm Travis had with a plant-broker friend. It symbolized some of his new business goals. Aside from plantings, vitality, color and movement in a garden can take the form of beneficial insects, like dragonflies, and this is precisely the sort of life and business that Travis cultivates. Dragonfly Gardens designs landscapes that capture natural beauty and demonstrate healthy relationships with seasonal cycles. In addition to creating gardens and landscapes, they also offer yard maintenance for clients that require help maintaining aspects of their landscaping (lawn care, weed control, leaf litter removal, etc.).

Travis Foster's plan is working out brilliantly. He loves his work, his customers love their gardens, and Santa Clara County residents can enjoy a world made more beautiful through the presence of more dragonflies.
