While attending college at St. Mary's of Moraga, Steve painted houses during weekends and vacations. He called his business On the Side Painting, and he loved the hands-on prepping and painting experience. After graduation, Steve Dondanville accepted a job in the corporate sector, but he never stopped painting. After a few years, he couldn't ignore his desire to work outside and he founded California Colors Painting in 1987.

Steve Dondanville says he's looking forward to when his son and daughter, ages 10 and 12, are old enough to help out. After all, even though he's been painting for more than 20 years and manages his company, Steve still loves to paint. "The tangible results are so rewarding, you feel it in your bones," he says.
