J D Tile & Construction Company Profile

d?> oing tile is tricky. It's an exacting, sometimes even tedious job that requires someone with a good eye, steady hands, and constant attention to the small details.

What The Local Builders Know

We found just such a tile contractor born and raised in Contra Costa named Jim Davis who's been doing quality tile installations since 1978. He owns and runs J D Tile & Construction with his wife Kathy Davis, and while the company is the first choice of the local general builders who know his reputation, he is available to the Bay Area homeowners directly who know to seek him out.

The most frequent comments from homeowner customers of J D Tile & Construction who received research phone calls were to gush about the quality of the work. A client named Kathryn said she was impressed with "...the quality of the service and work." "I can't say enough about the quality work that Jim does," said a another customer, Kari. "They were reasonably priced and the quality of the workmanship was great," added Anna, another client. And there were many more like them.

Qualities for Quality Tile

What is it that sets Jim Davis apart, besides 30 years of tile experience? For one, he's an admitted perfectionist, a good quality to have in someone doing tile, where attention to detail is a must.

Another is that friends describe him as a patient, considerate and extremely reliable man they can count on. Previous customers comment on this too, and how much Jim puts them at ease by explaining everything thoroughly until they understand it. "Jim was attentive and honest," shared previous customer Kim.

Jim Davis says this is an important thing to look for when choosing a tile contractor. "Did they explain how the process works," said Jim. "Did they answer all your questions properly to where you're comfortable?" Others say that Jim puts in the time to explain and help homeowners understand what can be done, without any sales pressure. "Our clientele is about 90% referrals," he said, "so I've never really had to sell."

Also, Jim Davis is an experienced craftsman who has the traditional skill of using mortar. These days, many tile setters take a shortcut by using a product known as "backerboard" which was originally intended only for do-it-yourselfers. The problem is that it's a shortcut that doesn't self-correct the way traditional mortar does, leading to tile that can be as unleveled as the wall or floor it's on. Using mortar takes more skill, and it allows the tile setter to guarantee a more uniform, level and quality job.

He and wife Kathy Davis have a 20 year old son and twin daughters they've raised in Antioch, not far from where Jim grew up in the Oakley / Brentwood area. Kathy says that her husband Jim is known as an extremely modest guy who doesn't brag. This bore out when we spoke to him. But Jim Davis' customers did the bragging for him. And that's where he derives most of his satisfaction he says. "My biggest reward is when the finished product stands out, and when the clients rave about the work."

And they did.
